If you already know Droppie, you might know that it is a multipurpose book. So as a parent you might felt disappointed if you just bought an illustrated children book. Having saying that, I am hoping you are open to a new way of seeing children books so you can use it as a tool for multiple purposes and ages.
For our youngest children between 4 to 6 yrs old, the book will invite them to read it with you, whatever role you are playing with the kid (as a parent, as an educator, as a guardian). I like to call that role: “The Unicorn”, the one who supports them in their adventure in this planet.
This is a summary of all the purposes you will find in Red Droppie:
Dialogues instead of story telling: They will invite you to role play the book while you are reading it, so there is an active interaction between you and the kid. This will spark the imagination of the kid and yours. And I hope that you both can create new scenarios for Red Droppie’s adventure from it. How does a hummingbird share love? How does a flower share love? How does a horse share its love?
Learn the meaning of color Red: one of the main goals of the book for this age range, is to learn the meaning of the colors. Red Droppie is an invitation to explore one of the most important meanings of color RED. This is the color of love, so the creative invitation is to find the different ways of love expressing itself in Mother Earth and between all the beings who lives here.
There is always a guide and an important message: Mother Earth or Gaia is the guide in this book. She asked questions to make Red Droppie reflect on what she learned about love from all the kingdoms (animals, plants, minerals/crystals, etc) and from all the elements of this planet (Water, Wind/Air, Fire, Earth and Energy). As well as, how important is the human role as the guardian of the planet. How does everything around us (the things that we see and the ones that we don't) express love? That is the main message of this book and the essence of the Red color.
Connect the kid with the adult’s inner child: I haven’t read any book for kids which sparks this connection. Guardians barely talked with the kids about how they were when they were a kid. And this connection is so important! I think this happens because most of adults are not connected with their own inner child for multiple reasons. But once you do, your connection with kids is so much easier. They perceive who is connected with their inner child and get magnetic attracted to those. The Red Time will create a moment for that connection to happen.
Simple Illustrations: I wanted to create a book that inspires kids to create their own books. Easy illustrations and drawings that seem to be done by a kid, can be an inspiration for them to create their own. So I invite you to spark that inspiration with the kid.
If you want to explore how to get most of this book for other ages (6 to 10 yrs), I invite you to continue this adventure through this post.
Hoping after reading this blog, it sparks your curiosity to connect with your own inner child and read this next one, specially created for her/him.
Stay Colorful!
Laura
