If you already know Droppie, you might know that it is a multipurpose book. So as a parent you might felt disappointed if you just bought an illustrated children book. Having saying that, I am hoping you are open to a new way of seeing children books so you can use it as a tool for multiple purposes and ages.
For our youngest children between 4 to 6 yrs old, the book will invite them to read it with you, whatever role you are playing with the kid (as a parent, as an educator, as a guardian). I like to call that role: “The Unicorn”, the one who supports them in their adventure in this planet.
This is a summary of all the purposes you will find in Yellow Droppie:
Dialogues instead of story telling: They will invite you to role play the book while you are reading it, so there is an active interaction between you and the kid. This will spark the imagination of the kid and yours. And I hope that you both can create new scenarios for Yellow Droppie’s adventure from it. How is life at the sun? What other things do the yellow citizens do on daily basis? How do houses look like at the sun?
Learn the meaning of color Yellow: one of the main goals of the book for this age range, is to learn the meaning of the colors. Yellow Droppie is an invitation to explore the different meanings of the color Yellow. This color reminds kids to stay playful, to connect with others through playing. It also invites them to learn new things and by doing that it introduces a new way of using numbers. It also connects the color Yellow with the sun of our solar system as well as the sun of our Milky Way Galaxy, which introduces to the youngest a perspective of the universe.
There is always a guide and an important message: Starty and Gaia are the guides in this book. Starty is the guide for that other World that Droppie travels to. Gaia helps her to bring that new things she learned over there, on Earth. The guides always help Droppie to learn something about herself while she is learning from someone else.
Connect the kid with the adult’s inner child: I haven’t read any book for kids which sparks this connection. Guardians barely talked with the kids about how they were when they were a kid. And this connection is so important! I think this happens because most of adults are not connected with their own inner child for multiple reasons. But once you do, your connection with kids is so much easier. They perceive who is connected with their inner child and get magnetic attracted to those. The Yellow Time will create a moment for that connection to happen.
Simple Illustrations: I wanted to create a book that inspires kids to create their own books. Easy illustrations and drawings that seem to be done by a kid, can be an inspiration for them to create their own. So I invite you to spark that inspiration with the kid.
If you want to explore how to get most of this book for other ages (6 to 10 yrs), I invite you to continue this adventure through this post.
Hoping after reading this blog, it sparks your curiosity to connect with your own inner child and read this next one, specially created for her/him.
Stay Colorful!
Laura
